42 U.S.C. § 17286 — Geothermal assessment, exploration information, and priority activities

(a) In general. By January 1, 2012, the Secretary of the Interior, acting through the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey, must complete a comprehensive nationwide assessment covering the full range of geothermal resources in the United States, and must report the results to the House Committee on Natural Resources and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. (b) Periodic updates. At least once every 10 years, the Secretary must update this assessment to support decision-making by the public and private sector. (c) Authorization of appropriations. Congress authorized $15,000,000 a year for fiscal years 2008 through 2012, and whatever sums are necessary for fiscal years 2013 through 2022, to carry out this section.
