The Director must fund programs that build the country's science workforce. These programs must connect K-12 teachers, college students, early-career researchers, faculty, and National Laboratories. They must use proven methods to bring more people from underrepresented groups into science.
This section has no lettered subsections. The Director* must support programs that build the scientific workforce by creating collaboration between teachers at elementary and secondary schools run by local school districts, students at colleges and universities, early-career researchers, university faculty, and the National Laboratories. These programs must use techniques already shown to work for expanding the number of people from underrepresented groups who pursue and earn undergraduate and graduate degrees, or gain skills, related to the mission of the Office of Science.
The Director* shall support the development of a scientific workforce through programs that facilitate collaboration between and among teachers at elementary schools and secondary schools served by local educational agencies, students at institutions of higher education, early-career researchers, faculty at institutions of higher education, and the National Laboratories, including through the use of proven techniques to expand the number of individuals from underrepresented groups pursuing and attaining skills or undergraduate and graduate degrees relevant to the mission of the Office of Science.
