The Children's Bureau must have an assistant chief. The Secretary of Health and Human Services appoints this person. This lasts until a different law changes it.

There shall be in the Children’s Bureau, until otherwise provided for by law, an assistant chief, to be appointed by the Secretary* of Health and Human Services.
