42 U.S.C. § 242p — National disease prevention data profile

This section requires a regular report on preventable disease and death. (a) On March 15, 1990, and every third year after that, the Secretary, through the National Center for Health Statistics, must send Congress a "national disease prevention data profile." Its purpose is to give a factual base for carrying out this Act and to raise public awareness of preventable causes of death and disability. At minimum, the profile must include: (1) death rates from preventable diseases; (2) illness rates linked to preventable diseases; (3) physical health factors in the U.S. population and how they connect to preventable death and disability; and (4) behavioral health factors — including but not limited to smoking, diet, exercise, and alcohol use — and how they connect to preventable death and disability. (b) In preparing this profile, the Secretary, through the National Center for Health Statistics, must follow all the relevant rules in sections 242k and 242m.
