42 U.S.C. § 285e–8 — Dissemination project

(a) Grant or contract for establishment: The Institute's Director must give a grant to, or contract with, a national organization representing people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias to carry out the activities in subsection (b). (b) Project activities: The organization must (1) build a central computerized information system to (A) gather and share information on state, local government, and private initiatives offering programs and services for people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and (B) translate technical and scientific information about these initiatives into plain language the public can understand, sharing it on request; and (2) set up a national toll-free phone line sharing that information, plus information on federal programs, services, and benefits for these individuals and their families. (c) Fees for information; exception: The organization may charge reasonable fees for information given through the toll-free line, but may waive those fees for people or groups who can't afford them. (d) Application for grant or contract: To get this grant or contract, an organization must apply to the Director, showing (1) it has a network of contacts that lets it gather the information needed for the computerized system in subsection (b)(1); (2) by the end of fiscal year 1991, it will be able to run subsection (b)'s activities without federal funding, and will do so; and (3) any other information the Director requires.
