42 U.S.C. § 290bb–25f — Prevention and education programs

(a) In general The Secretary of Health and Human Services must award grants to public and nonprofit private entities to run science-based education programs in elementary and secondary schools that highlight the harmful effects of anabolic steroids. (b) Eligibility (1) Application To get a grant, an entity must prepare and submit an application to the Secretary at whatever time, in whatever manner, and with whatever information the Secretary requires. (2) Preference In awarding grants, the Secretary must favor applicants planning to use the funds for programs based on: (A) the Athletes Training and Learning to Avoid Steroids program; (B) the Athletes Targeting Healthy Exercise and Nutrition Alternatives program; and (C) other programs the National Institute on Drug Abuse has found effective. (c) Use of funds Grant money must go to education programs that communicate directly with teachers, principals, coaches, and elementary and secondary school children about the harmful effects of anabolic steroids. (d) Authorization of appropriations $15,000,000 per year is authorized for fiscal years 2005 through 2010.
