42 U.S.C. § 292u — Administrative provisions

This section gives the Secretary broad power to manage agreements and loans made under this subpart. The Secretary may agree to change, or "modify," any agreement or loan made under this subpart. The Secretary may also compromise, waive, or release any right, title, claim, or demand that the United States has gained or acquired under this subpart — meaning the Secretary can settle a dispute, give up a legal claim, or let go of a debt owed to the government, when handling these school loan funds.
