42 U.S.C. § 300b–7 — Tourette Syndrome

(a) In general: The Secretary of Health and Human Services must create and run outreach programs. These programs teach the public, doctors and other health workers, teachers, and community groups about Tourette Syndrome — what causes it, its symptoms, how to diagnose it, and how to treat it. The programs must pay special attention to children with Tourette Syndrome. The Secretary can run these programs directly or pay for them through grants or contracts to public agencies and nonprofit groups. (b) Certain activities: The outreach programs under (a) must include three things. First, making and translating educational materials, including public service announcements. Second, creating training materials for doctors, teachers, and community groups. Third, reaching out specifically about the problem of Tourette Syndrome being misdiagnosed or missed entirely in children and in minority groups. (c) Authorization of appropriations: Congress could give the Secretary whatever money was needed to run this program, for each year from 2001 through 2005.
