42 U.S.C. § 300cc–40b — Advisory Council; coordinating committees

(a) Advisory Council: (1) In general: The Secretary must set up an advisory council — called the "Advisory Council" — to advise the Director of the Office on carrying out this part of the law. (2) Composition, compensation, terms, chair, etc.: The Advisory Council follows the same rules (subsections (b) through (g) of section 284a) that apply to the advisory councils of the national research institutes, with two exceptions: (A) besides the ex officio members already required under section 284a(b)(2), the Advisory Council also includes a representative from the advisory council of the National Cancer Institute and one from the advisory council of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; and (B) it also includes ex officio members — representatives — from the advisory councils of whichever two other national research institutes get the most funding for AIDS activities. (b) Individual coordinating committees regarding research disciplines: (1) In general: For every research discipline involved in carrying out the plan required under section 300cc–40c, the Director of the Office must set up a "coordinating committee" to advise the Director on that discipline. (2) Composition: Each coordinating committee is made up of representatives from the NIH agencies that have significant responsibility for that research discipline.
