42 U.S.C. § 4122 — Studies of other natural disasters; cooperation and consultation with other departments and agencies

The Administrator may study whether insurance for earthquakes and other non-flood natural disasters is unavailable and feasible. The studies should involve Federal, State, and local agencies as much as practicable.
(a) The Administrator* may conduct studies needed to determine how much insurance against earthquakes or other natural-disaster risks besides floods is unavailable from public or private sources, and whether such insurance could feasibly be offered. (b) To the greatest practicable extent, the studies must be carried out with Federal, State*, and local agencies. The Administrator may consult those agencies, receive information from them, and make necessary agreements or other arrangements with them. Agreements with Federal departments and agencies are on a reimbursement basis.
The Administrator* is authorized to undertake such studies as may be necessary for the purpose of determining the extent to which insurance protection against earthquakes or any other natural disaster perils, other than flood, is not available from public or private sources, and the feasibility of such insurance protection being made available.
Studies under this section shall be carried out, to the maximum extent practicable, with the cooperation of other Federal departments and agencies and State* and local agencies, and the Administrator is authorized to consult with, receive information from, and enter into any necessary agreements or other arrangements with such other Federal departments and agencies (on a reimbursement basis) and such State and local agencies.
