42 U.S.C. § 7708 — Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation

(a) Establishment. The National Science Foundation Director^* must establish the George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation. It must upgrade, connect, and integrate geographically distributed experimental facilities for testing full-size structures and components and partial-scale physical models. Networking software must integrate the system so models and databases can create model-based simulations. The parts must be connected by computer network and permit remote access, information sharing, and collaborative research. (b) Funding. In addition to section 7706(c) funds, the following amounts are authorized for the network: $28,200,000 for 2001; $24,400,000 for 2002; $4,500,000 for 2003; $17,000,000 for 2004; $20,000,000 for 2005; $20,400,000 for 2006; $20,870,000 for 2007; $21,390,000 for 2008; and $21,930,000 for 2009. All amounts for 2005 through 2009 must be available for operations and maintenance.
