42 U.S.C. § 8906Updated data base on acid content in precipitation; new monitoring site not required

submitted 38 years ago by Pub. L. 100-685 to r/title-42-THE-PUBLIC-HEALTH-AND-WELFARE · 169 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

This law requires the National Weather Service to track acid levels in U.S. rainfall. It must keep an updated database using data from federal monitoring sites. That data had to become public within 120 days of November 17, 1988, where available. This law does not require any new monitoring site to be set up.

(a)(1) The National Weather Service, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, must maintain an updated database describing the acid content of precipitation across the United States, using information from federal acid-precipitation monitoring sites. (2) That data must be made available to interested people through National Weather Service Forecast Offices, or through other means the Assistant Administrator for Weather Services directs — for those areas of the country, and at those times, where the information is already available — within 120 days of November 17, 1988. (3) Where other federal agencies collect this kind of data while carrying out their own statutory duties, the heads of those agencies and the NOAA Administrator must arrange to transfer that data to the National Weather Service. (b) Nothing in this section requires any federal agency to set up a new acid-precipitation monitoring site.
