44 U.S.C. § 2115 — Reports; correction of violations

This section lets the Archivist obtain reports from Federal agencies about activities under specified chapters. If the Archivist finds a violation, the Archivist must notify the agency head and recommend a correction, then report the matter to the President and Congress unless corrective measures have demonstrably begun within a reasonable time.
(a) While carrying out duties and responsibilities under chapters 21, 25, 29, 31, and 33 of this title, the Archivist may obtain reports from any Federal agency about that agency’s activities under those chapters.
(b) If the Archivist finds that a provision of any of those chapters has been or is being violated, the Archivist must—
(1) tell the head of the agency concerned in writing about the violation and recommend how to correct it; and
(2) unless satisfactory corrective measures are demonstrably commenced within a reasonable time, submit a written report about the matter to the President and Congress.
