44 U.S.C. § 312 — Machinery, material, equipment, or supplies from other Government agencies

This law requires federal officers to report unneeded printing, binding, or reproduction equipment to the Director of the Government Publishing Office. The Director, with Joint Committee on Printing approval, can then claim useful items for GPO. Those items must then be promptly delivered to GPO.
If a government officer has printing, binding, or reproduction machinery, material, equipment, or supplies - including lithography and photolithography equipment - that's no longer needed or allowed for that officer's work, the officer must send the Director of the Government Publishing Office a detailed report about it. The Director, with approval from the Joint Committee on Printing, can then request whichever of those items would be useful at GPO, and they must be delivered there promptly.
An officer of the Government having machinery, material, equipment, or supplies for printing, binding, and blank-book work, including lithography, photolithography, and other processes of reproduction, no longer required or authorized for the service of such officer, shall submit a detailed report of them to the Director of the Government Publishing Office. The Director of the Government Publishing Office, with the approval of the Joint Committee on Printing, may requisition such articles as are serviceable in the Government Publishing Office, and they shall be promptly delivered to that office.
