The authority issuing boat numbers can write regulations and set fees to carry out this chapter. Fees must apply equally to residents and nonresidents. A state can only add conditions this chapter allows or that involve tax proof.
The authority issuing numbers under this chapter can write regulations and set fees to carry out the chapter's purpose. Fees must apply equally to state* residents and nonresidents. A state issuing authority can only impose conditions on boat numbering that are either prescribed by this chapter or the Secretary's standard-numbering-system regulations, or related to proof that state or local taxes have been paid.
The authority issuing a number under this chapter may prescribe regulations and establish fees to carry out the intent of this chapter. The fees shall apply equally to residents and nonresidents of the State*. A State issuing authority may impose only conditions for vessel* numbering that are—
prescribed by this chapter or regulations of the Secretary about the standard numbering system; or
related to proof of payment of State or local taxes.
