If an award recipient cannot accept it in person, someone else can accept it for them. The Secretary of Transportation decides who counts as an appropriate representative.
If a person who is to receive an award under this chapter cannot accept it personally, the Secretary of Transportation may present the award to an appropriate representative instead.
If an individual to be issued an award under this chapter is unable to accept the award personally, the Secretary of Transportation may present the award to an appropriate representative.
