47 U.S.C. § 408 — Order not for payment of money; when effective

This section sets when Federal Communications Commission orders take effect. Normally, an order takes effect 30 calendar days after the Commission gives public notice of it. This 30-day rule doesn't apply to orders requiring someone to pay money — those are handled differently, under other parts of this chapter. The Commission can also choose a different effective date instead of the standard 30 days. Once in effect, an order stays in force for however long the order itself says — or, if it doesn't say, until the Commission or a court with proper authority issues a new order that replaces it.
