The Secretary of Transportation must require written certification after testing train-stop, train-control, or cab-signal equipment. That certification must be kept with the locomotive's daily inspection report.
The Secretary of Transportation must write rules and issue orders that require two things.
(1) Before a train enters an area where an automatic train stop, train control, or cab signal system will be used, someone must test that equipment. That person must certify in writing that the test was done correctly.
(2) The written certification from (1) must be stored in the same way and the same place as the locomotive's daily inspection report.
The Secretary of Transportation shall prescribe regulations and issue orders to require that—
an individual performing a test of an automatic train stop, train control, or cab signal apparatus required by the Secretary to be performed before entering territory where the apparatus will be used shall certify in writing that the test was performed properly; and
the certification required under clause (1) of this section shall be maintained in the same way and place as the daily inspection report for the locomotive.
