49 U.S.C. § 24310 — Management accountability

(a) In General — Within 3 years after the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008 became law, and every 2 years after that, the Inspector General of the Department of Transportation must finish an overall review of how well Amtrak and the Department have carried out that Act.

(b) Assessment — This review may look at: (1) how well Amtrak has improved its yearly financial planning; (2) how well it has put better financial accounting into practice; (3) its efforts to set up minimum train performance standards; (4) its progress raising revenue, cutting the need for federal subsidies, and improving its finances; and (5) any other part of Amtrak's operations the Inspector General thinks is worth reviewing.
