49 U.S.C. § 44945 — Disposition of unclaimed money and clothing

submitted 22 years ago by Pub. L. 108-334 to r/title-49-TRANSPORTATION · 188 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

Unclaimed money found at airport security checkpoints stays with the TSA to help fund aviation security. Unclaimed clothing found there should generally be donated to charity, especially groups helping homeless or needy veterans, through agreements with local airport authorities. None of this can cost the government money.

(a) Unclaimed money. Money found unclaimed at an airport security checkpoint is kept by the TSA and stays available, without needing to go to the Treasury as usual, to be spent on aviation security.

(b) Unclaimed clothing. (1) When disposing of unclaimed clothing found at a checkpoint, the Administrator must make every reasonable effort, working with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, to give the clothing to the local airport authority or other local groups for donation to charity — especially veterans' organizations or other local charities that help homeless or needy veterans and their families. (2) The Administrator may make agreements with airport authorities to carry this out. (3) This does not stop an airport or the TSA from donating unclaimed clothing to any charity of their own choosing instead. (4) Nothing in this subsection may cost the government any money.
