49 U.S.C. § 6303 — Intermodal transportation database

(a) In general. After consulting the Under Secretary for Transportation Policy, the Department’s Assistant Secretaries, and the heads of the Department’s operating administrations, the Director must create and maintain a transportation database for every transportation mode. (b) Use. The database must be suitable for analyses by the Federal Government, the States, and metropolitan planning organizations. (c) Contents. The database must include— (1) information about the amounts and patterns of goods movement, including local, interregional, and international movement, by every transportation mode, combinations of modes, and relevant categories; (2) information about the amounts and patterns of people movement, including local, interregional, and international movement, by every transportation mode, including bicycles and walking, combinations of modes, and relevant categories; (3) information about where transportation facilities and services are located and how they connect; and (4) a national accounting of spending and capital stock for each transportation mode and combination of modes.
