52 U.S.C. § 21071 — National Student and Parent Mock Election

(a) In general: The Commission may give grants to the National Student and Parent Mock Election, a national nonpartisan nonprofit that promotes voter participation, so it can run voter-education activities for students and their parents. These activities may (1) include simulated national elections held at least 5 days before the real election, open to students and parents from all 50 states, U.S. territories, the District of Columbia, and American schools overseas; and (2) include: (A) school forums and local cable call-in shows about the issues on the ballot; (B) speeches and debates by local candidates or their stand-ins, for students and parents; (C) quiz competitions, mock press conferences, and speech-writing contests; (D) weekly meetings that follow the campaign; or (E) school and neighborhood turnout campaigns, including newsletters, posters, phone trees, and transportation.

(b) Requirement: The National Student and Parent Mock Election must give awards to outstanding student and parent mock election projects.
