This section defines four terms used in this part of the law: 'field employee,' 'primary resource values,' 'quarters,' and 'seasonal quarters.' These definitions set who counts as a field employee and what kinds of park housing the law covers.
This subchapter defines four terms.
(1) Field employee. This term means two groups of people, plus their families. (A) It means a Service* employee who is assigned only to work at a field unit, along with that employee's family. (B) It also means anyone else who is authorized to live in Federal Government quarters under section 5911 of title 5, and for whom there is no realistic alternative to Federal housing, along with that person's family.
(2) Primary resource values. This term means resources that are either specifically named in the law that created that particular field unit, or another resource value that federal law recognizes.
(3) Quarters. This term means housing that the Federal Government owns or leases.
(4) Seasonal quarters. This term means quarters normally used by field employees who are hired for assignments of six months or less.
In this subchapter:
The term “field employee” means—
an employee of the Service* who is exclusively assigned by the Service to perform duties at a field unit, and the members of the employee’s family; and
any other individual who is authorized to occupy Federal Government quarters under section 5911 of title 5, and for whom there is no feasible alternative to the provision of Federal Government housing, and the members of the individual’s family.
The term “primary resource values” means resources that are specifically mentioned in the enabling legislation for that field unit or other resource value recognized under Federal statute.
The term “quarters” means quarters owned or leased by the Federal Government.
The term “seasonal quarters” means quarters typically occupied by field employees who are hired on assignments of 6 months or less.
