This section requires careful review before the Secretary acts on museum objects. The Secretary must protect the public interest when treating museum objects. Before those actions, the Secretary must set up a careful review process meeting top museum standards.
The Secretary* must treat museum objects carefully and thoughtfully, in a way that protects the public interest. Before taking any action under subsection (g), (h), or (i) of section 102503 of this title — meaning before transferring, giving away, or destroying a museum object* — the Secretary must first set up a systematic review and approval process. That process must include consulting with the right experts. It must meet the highest standards of the museum profession for every action taken under those subsections.
The Secretary* shall ensure that museum objects are treated in a careful and deliberate manner that protects the public interest. Prior to taking any action under subsection (g), (h), or (i) of section 102503 of this title, the Secretary shall establish a systematic review and approval process, including consultation with appropriate experts, that meets the highest standards of the museum profession for all actions taken under those subsections.
