Federal agencies must run their programs and projects in ways that fit historic preservation goals, as long as that also fits their own mission. This includes projects that get federal money or need a federal license or permit. Agencies should favor projects that help preservation goals.
Staying true to its own mission, each federal agency* must carry out its programs and projects — including ones that get federal financial assistance, or that need a federal license, permit, or other approval — in a way consistent with the purposes of this division. Agencies must also give consideration to programs and projects that will further those purposes.
Consistent with the agency’s missions and mandates, each Federal agency* shall carry out agency programs and projects (including those under which any Federal assistance is provided or any Federal license, permit, or other approval is required) in accordance with the purposes of this division and give consideration to programs and projects that will further the purposes of this division.
