6 U.S.C. § 243 — Maritime operations coordination plan

(a) In general. Within 180 days after October 5, 2018, and then every two years after that, the Secretary must do two things. First, update the Department's Maritime Operations Coordination Plan, which was first published on July 7, 2011. The update must make coordination, planning, information sharing, and intelligence integration stronger among the Department's offices that handle maritime security. Second, send each updated plan to four specific congressional committees: the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee; the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee; the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; and the House Homeland Security Committee. (b) Contents. Every update to the plan must cover four things: (1) How to coordinate planning and combine maritime operations, and build joint awareness of what's happening in U.S. waters, across the Department's maritime security offices. (2) How to keep sharing information effectively, and share intelligence where appropriate, with federal, state, and local officials and with private companies about threats to maritime security. (3) How to cooperate and coordinate with other federal, state, and local agencies operating in maritime areas, to support maritime security work. (4) How the completed work fits into other national and Department maritime security guidance, and highlighting that connection.
