6 U.S.C. § 471 — Annual ammunition report

(a) The Secretary of Homeland Security must submit a report to Congress 180 days after January 17, 2014, and every year after that, starting with the President's fiscal year 2016 budget proposal. This report covers the purchase and use of ammunition, broken down by ammunition type. It must include: (1) how much ammunition each relevant Department of Homeland Security component or agency had in stock at the end of the previous calendar year, and how much it used and bought that year, by ammunition type; (2) an explanation of how that quantity, usage, and purchasing lines up with each component's or agency's mission needs for certification, qualification, training, and operations; and (3) details on all the contracting practices the Department used, including how they compare to other contracting options on cost and availability. (b) The reports required by subsection (a) must be submitted in a format that protects the safety of law enforcement personnel.
