6 U.S.C. § 983 — Inspection technology and training

(a) The Secretary^*, coordinating with the Secretaries of State^* and Energy and appropriate Federal-agency^* representatives, may provide technical assistance, equipment, and training to help implement supply-chain security measures at ports designated under the Container Security Initiative. (b) Unless another law forbids it, the Secretary may: (1) lease, lend, provide, or otherwise help deploy nonintrusive-inspection and radiation-detection equipment at foreign land and sea ports under terms the Secretary sets, including loans that do not require repayment or transfer of ownership; and (2) provide training and technical assistance to domestic or foreign personnel who operate or maintain the equipment.
