7 U.S.C. § 1421d — Commodity reports

(a) Crop reports. The Secretary of Agriculture must gather producer data for crop reports distributed during the growing season. The reports must state crop conditions by State and include useful explanations, comparisons, and information. (b) Special reports. (1) In addition to (a), the Secretary must annually survey producers for reports on supply, acreage, production, disposition, and prices for the numbers of commodities the Secretary determines: (A) 25 fresh-market vegetables; (B) 3 processing vegetables; (C) 6 fruits and nuts; (D) 17 forage and turf seeds; (E) 50 vegetable seeds; and (F) maple syrup. (2) Each year, the Secretary must prepare reports with survey results for the States the Secretary determines. The Secretary of Agriculture must officially approve them before they are issued or published. (c) Tree inventories. The Secretary must survey producers for fruit and nut tree-inventory reports. The surveys and reports must be conducted, printed, and distributed regularly every 3 to 5 years, as the Secretary decides. The Secretary must approve the reports before they are issued or published. (d) Omitted. (e) Authorization. Congress may appropriate amounts needed to carry out this section.
