7 U.S.C. § 2229 — Travel and per diem expenses of temporary or seasonal employees

Under regulations prescribed by the Secretary of Agriculture, funds available to the Department of Agriculture may be used to pay: - transportation expenses; and - per diem in lieu of subsistence expenses, in accordance with subchapter I of chapter 57 of title 5. These payments may cover travel between the places where the workers are recruited and the places where they perform their duties, as well as time spent at the places of duty. The people covered must be appointed for temporary or seasonal services involving the inspection, “classing,” or grading of agricultural commodities. This section does not define “per diem,” “subsistence,” or “classing.”
