This section makes food and human-nutrition research a separate Department of Agriculture mission and requires increased support for it. It also requires periodic consultation with administrators of other Federal programs concerned with food and nutrition.
(a) Increased support. The Secretary* must establish food and human-nutrition research as a separate and distinct mission of the Department of Agriculture*. The Secretary must increase support for that research to a level providing enough resources to meet this subchapter’s policy.
(b) Periodic consultation. In administering the food and human-nutrition research program, the Secretary must periodically consult the administrators of other Federal departments and agencies responsible for programs involving human food and nutrition about those departments’ and agencies’ specific research needs.
The Secretary* shall establish research into food and human nutrition as a separate and distinct mission of the Department of Agriculture*, and the Secretary shall increase support for such research to a level that provides resources adequate to meet the policy of this subchapter.
The Secretary, in administering the food and human nutrition research program, shall periodically consult with the administrators of the other Federal departments and agencies that have responsibility for programs dealing with human food and nutrition, as to the specific research needs of those departments and agencies.
