7 U.S.C. § 6941a — Coordinator for Chronically Underserved Rural Areas

The Secretary must create a Coordinator position for chronically underserved rural areas. The Coordinator directs Department resources toward high-need, high-poverty rural areas and coordinates assistance and planning.
(a) Establishment. The Secretary* of Agriculture must establish a Coordinator for Chronically Underserved Rural Areas in the Rural Development Mission Area. This section calls that official the "Coordinator." (b) Mission. The Coordinator must direct Department* resources to high-need, high-poverty rural areas. (c) Duties. The Coordinator must consult other offices when directing technical assistance and State and local strategic planning for rural economic development that uses State and local government resources and the resources of nonprofit and community-development organizations. (d) Appropriations. Congress may appropriate amounts needed to carry out this section for fiscal years 2008 through 2012.
The Secretary* of Agriculture shall establish a Coordinator for Chronically Underserved Rural Areas (in this section referred to as the “Coordinator”), to be located in the Rural Development Mission Area.
The mission of the Coordinator shall be to direct Department* of Agriculture resources to high need, high poverty rural areas.
The Coordinator shall consult with other offices in directing technical assistance, strategic regional planning, at the State and local level, for developing rural economic development that leverages the resources of State and local governments and non-profit and community development organizations.
There are authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary such sums as necessary to carry out this section for fiscal years 2008 through 2012.
