10 U.S.C. § 14003 — Reserve active-status lists: position of officers on the list

(a) Position on List. Officers are placed on their armed force's reserve active-status list^* in order of seniority in the grade^* they currently hold in an active status^*. Officers who share the same grade are ranked in the order of their rank^* within that grade.

(b) Effect on Position Held by Reason of Temporary Appointment or Assignment. Sometimes an officer's spot on the list comes from a temporary appointment, or from holding a grade because of a particular job assignment. When that appointment or assignment ends, the officer^* goes back to the grade and list position they would have held if they had never gotten that temporary appointment or assignment.
