10 U.S.C. § 14105 — Notice of convening of promotion board

(a) Required Notice. At least 30 days before a promotion board convenes under section 14101(a) to consider officers in a specific grade and competitive category, the Secretary of the relevant military department must do one of two things: either notify each eligible officer in writing that the board is convening, or issue one general written notice to the whole armed force about it. (b) Content of Notice. Whichever kind of notice is used, it must state the date the board will convene. Except for a vacancy promotion board, it must also name the most junior officer and the most senior officer who are "in the promotion zone" as of the date of the notice, along with each one's date of rank. This lets officers figure out where they stand relative to the board's review.
