10 U.S.C. § 7483 — Transportation and subsistence during travel

People attending Army Reserve training camps can get help paying for travel to and from camp. They can receive actual transportation and meals, a small mileage allowance for transportation, or a flat travel allowance. Distance is measured by the shortest usual route.
(a) A person attending a school or camp set up under section 7481 can be given, for travel to and from it: (1) transportation and food; (2) transportation plus a food allowance of one cent per mile; or (3) a travel allowance of five cents per mile.
(b) The return-trip travel allowance can be paid in advance.
(c) Distance for this section is measured by the shortest usual route, within limits the Secretary of the Army* sets, from the authorized starting point to the school or camp and back.
There may be furnished to a person attending a school or camp established under section 7481 of this title, for travel to and from that school or camp—
transportation and subsistence;
transportation in kind and a subsistence allowance of one cent a mile; or
a travel allowance of five cents a mile.
The travel allowance for the return trip may be paid in advance.
For the purposes of this section, distance is computed by the shortest usually traveled route, within such territorial limits as the Secretary of the Army* may prescribe, from the authorized starting point to the school or camp and return.
