The Navy Secretary can accept traditional gifts given to Navy ships. These include silver, flags, books, and furniture. The Navy pays to care for these gifts from its ship maintenance budget.
The Secretary of the Navy may accept gifts that are traditionally given to Navy ships, such as silver items, ceremonial colors (flags), books, or other equipment and furniture. This only covers gifts that follow long-standing naval custom. Once the Navy accepts a gift, it must take care of it. Any costs needed to maintain and care for these accepted gifts are paid out of the budget set aside for maintaining and operating naval vessels.
The Secretary of the Navy may accept and care for such gifts of silver, colors, books, or other articles of equipment or furniture as, in accordance with custom, are made to vessels of the Navy. Necessary expenses incident to the care of gifts that are accepted shall be paid from the appropriation for the maintenance and operation of vessels.
