10 U.S.C. § 9088 — Duty assignments after officer training course

(a) Requirement. The Secretary must ensure that members who complete an initial Space Force officer^* training course are assigned (1) so acquisition billets are staffed at levels comparable to operational billets; and (2) to Space Force billets allocated to the National Reconnaissance Office at a level sufficient to keep that Office operating effectively. (b) Report. Within 60 days after enactment of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, and by October 31 each year through 2030, the Secretary must report to the Senate and House Armed Services Committees: (1) the number and percentage of authorized and assigned Space Force officer billets, by grade^* and year group, in (A) acquisition fields and (B) operational fields; (2) junior-officer manning rates by field and organization, including the National Reconnaissance Office; (3) identified acquisition-versus-operations staffing shortfalls or imbalances; and (4) actions taken or planned to reach and maintain comparable acquisition and operations staffing.
