This section defines three words used throughout this title about the Census. "Bureau" means the Bureau of the Census. "Secretary" means the Secretary of Commerce. "Respondent" means anyone who reports information to the Bureau.
This section defines three terms for the rest of this title. These definitions apply unless the context requires a different meaning, or another part of the title says otherwise.
(1) "Bureau" means the Bureau of the Census.
(2) "Secretary" means the Secretary of Commerce.
(3) "Respondent" is a broad term covering anyone who reported information, or on whose behalf information was reported, in answer to a questionnaire, inquiry, or other request from the Bureau. It includes a corporation, company, association, firm, partnership, proprietorship, society, joint stock company, individual, or any other organization or entity.
As used in this title, unless the context requires another meaning or unless it is otherwise provided—
“Bureau” means the Bureau of the Census;
“Secretary” means the Secretary of Commerce; and
“respondent” includes a corporation, company, association, firm, partnership, proprietorship, society, joint stock company, individual, or other organization or entity which reported information, or on behalf of which information was reported, in response to a questionnaire, inquiry, or other request of the Bureau.
