This section creates one additional Assistant Secretary of Commerce. It sets the appointment process, allows the Secretary of Commerce to assign duties, and says the Assistant Secretaries have no numbered rank.
There must be one additional Assistant Secretary of Commerce in the Department of Commerce. The President appoints this Assistant Secretary with the Senate's advice and consent. The Secretary of Commerce may assign the Assistant Secretaries duties that the Secretary prescribes or that the law requires, including directing the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce. The Assistant Secretaries have no numbered distinction of rank.
There shall be in the Department of Commerce one additional Assistant Secretary of Commerce, who shall be appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate. The Secretary of Commerce may assign to his Assistant Secretaries such duties, including the direction of the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, as he shall prescribe, or may be required by law. The Assistant Secretaries of Commerce shall be without numerical distinction of rank.
