This section creates one additional Assistant Secretary of Commerce. The President appoints that officer with the Senate's advice and consent, the officer receives the legally prescribed compensation, and the Secretary of Commerce assigns the officer's duties.
The Department of Commerce must have one additional Assistant Secretary of Commerce beyond the Assistant Secretaries already provided for by law. The President appoints this Assistant Secretary with the advice and consent of the Senate. The Assistant Secretary receives the compensation that the law prescribes for Assistant Secretaries of Commerce and performs the duties that the Secretary of Commerce assigns. This section does not define "advice and consent."
There shall be in the Department of Commerce, in addition to the Assistant Secretaries now provided by law, one additional Assistant Secretary of Commerce who shall be appointed by the President by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall receive compensation at the rate prescribed by law for Assistant Secretaries of Commerce, and shall perform such duties as the Secretary of Commerce shall prescribe.
