15 U.S.C. § 8006 — Education and awareness program

This section requires the Consumer Product Safety Commission^* (the Commission) to educate the public about pool and spa^* drowning and entrapment.

(a) In general. The Commission must create and run an education program covering methods to prevent drowning and entrapment in pools and spas. That program must include: educational materials for pool and spa manufacturers, service companies, and retailers, including guidance on inspecting, maintaining, and replacing barriers and drain covers (1); educational materials for pool and spa owners, operators, consumers, states, and Indian Tribes (2); and a national media campaign to raise awareness of pool and spa safety (3).

(b) Authorization of appropriations. Congress authorized $2,500,000 for the Commission to run this education and awareness program in fiscal year 2023.
