15 U.S.C. § 8549 — Hurricane hunter aircraft

(a) Backup capability. The Under Secretary must get backup for the abilities of NOAA's WP-3D Orion and G-IV hurricane-tracking aircraft. This backup must be enough to prevent one aircraft failure from stopping the mission. (b) Authority to enter agreements. To do this, the Under Secretary must negotiate and sign one or more agreements or contracts, as needed, with government or non-government organizations. (c) Future technology. The Under Secretary must also keep developing Airborne Phased Array Radar as part of the United States Weather Research Program. (d) Authorization of appropriations. For fiscal years 2017 through 2020, money appropriated to the Office of Marine and Aviation Operations may be used to support subsections (a) and (b).
