16 U.S.C. § 272a — Acquisition of property

This law lets the Secretary of the Interior acquire land for Arches National Park. The Secretary can buy, accept as a donation, or exchange land, but needs Utah's approval for state-owned land. The Secretary must also move the Lost Spring Canyon Addition to National Park Service control.
(a) In general — The Secretary is authorized to acquire the land and land interests described in section 272 of this title, by donation, purchase using donated or appropriated money, transfer from another federal agency, exchange, or other means. But if the land or interest is owned by the State of Utah or one of its political subdivisions, the Secretary can only acquire it with that state or subdivision's approval.
(b) Lost Spring Canyon Addition — As soon as practical after October 30, 1998, the Secretary must transfer authority over the federal land in the Lost Spring Canyon Addition from the Bureau of Land Management to the National Park Service.
The Secretary is authorized to acquire by donation, purchase with donated or appropriated funds, transfer from any Federal agency, exchange or otherwise, the lands and interests in lands described in section 272 of this title, except that lands or interests therein owned by the State of Utah, or any political subdivision thereof, may be acquired only with the approval of such State or political subdivision.
As soon as practicable after October 30, 1998, the Secretary shall transfer jurisdiction over the Federal land contained in the Lost Spring Canyon Addition from the Bureau of Land Management to the National Park Service.
