16 U.S.C. § 410ccc–3 — Acquisition of property

The Secretary can generally buy land for the Cane River park by donation, purchase, or exchange. But state and local government land, and Museum Contents Inc. property, can only be acquired by donation, and cooperative-agreement sites need the owner's consent.
(a) General authority. Except as otherwise stated in this section, the Secretary may acquire land and interests in land within the historical park's boundaries by donation, purchase (with donated or appropriated funds), or exchange.
(b) State and local properties. Land owned by Louisiana or a local government there can only be acquired by donation or exchange.
(c) Museum Contents, Inc. Land and structures identified in section 410ccc–1(b)(2) can only be acquired by donation.
(d) Cooperative agreement sites. Land covered by cooperative agreements under section 410ccc–1(b)(3) cannot be acquired without the owner's consent.
Except as otherwise provided in this section, the Secretary is authorized to acquire lands and interest therein within the boundaries of the historical park by donation, purchase with donated or appropriated funds, or exchange.
Lands and interests therein that are owned by the State of Louisiana, or any political subdivision thereof, may be acquired only by donation or exchange.
Lands and structures identified in section 410ccc–1(b)(2) of this title may be acquired only by donation.
Lands and interests therein that are the subject of cooperative agreements pursuant to section 410ccc–1(b)(3) of this title shall not be acquired except with the consent of the owner thereof.
