16 U.S.C. § 410fff–4 — Expansion of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison Wilderness

(a) Expansion: The Black Canyon of the Gunnison Wilderness was originally created by subsection (b) of the first section of Public Law 94–567. This section expands that existing wilderness area by adding a new parcel of land. The added parcel, shown on the Map and labeled "Tract A," contains about 4,419 acres. Once added, this parcel becomes part of the officially designated wilderness, meaning it gets the same protections — against roads, motorized use, and most development — that apply to wilderness areas generally under the Wilderness Act. (b) Administration: Even though the Black Canyon of the Gunnison Wilderness is a designated wilderness area, it is not managed separately or independently. Instead, it is administered as a component of the Park — meaning the same National Park Service management structure that runs the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park also oversees this wilderness area, applying wilderness-specific rules within that broader park administration.
