16 U.S.C. § 441d — Examinations, excavations, and gathering of objects of interest within park

This section allows scientific digs and collecting inside Badlands National Park. The Secretary of the Interior may permit examinations, excavations, and gathering of objects of interest within the park. The Secretary decides who is "properly qualified" to carry these out, and may set rules and regulations governing how it's done. There's a condition: this is only allowed if the examinations, excavations, and gatherings are done for the benefit of a reputable museum, university, college, or other recognized scientific or educational institution. The purpose has to be to increase knowledge of these objects and help advance geological and zoological science generally — not for private collection or profit.
