This section states purposes involving a coordinated Federal response to illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. It addresses data sharing, regional cooperation, seafood supply-chain transparency, enforcement, and preventing such fishing from financing transnational organized groups.
The purposes of this chapter are: (1) support a coordinated whole-of-Federal-Government approach against IUU fishing and related maritime-security threats; (2) improve data sharing that strengthens global surveillance, enforcement, and prosecution against IUU fishing and related activity; (3) support coordination and cooperation against IUU fishing in priority regions; (4) increase global seafood-supply-chain transparency and traceability as (A) a deterrent to IUU fishing and (B) a tool for stronger fisheries management and food security; (5) improve global enforcement against IUU fishing through a United States whole-of-government approach; and (6) prevent IUU fishing from financing transnational organized groups that undermine United States and global security interests.
The purposes of this chapter are—
to support a whole-of-government approach across the Federal Government to counter IUU fishing and related threats to maritime security;
to improve data sharing that enhances surveillance, enforcement, and prosecution against IUU fishing and related activities at a global level;
to support coordination and collaboration to counter IUU fishing within priority regions;
to increase and improve global transparency and traceability across the seafood supply chain as—
a deterrent to IUU fishing; and
a tool for strengthening fisheries management and food security;
to improve global enforcement operations against IUU fishing through a whole-of-government approach by the United States; and
to prevent the use of IUU fishing as a financing source for transnational organized groups that undermine United States and global security interests.
