36 U.S.C. § 136 — Peace Officers Memorial Day

This section has no lettered subsections, but asks the President to issue a proclamation with three numbered parts. (1) It designates May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, honoring federal, state, and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. (2) It directs U.S. government officials to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff on all government buildings on that day, as provided in 4 U.S.C. § 7(m). (3) It invites state and local governments and the people of the United States to observe the day with fitting ceremonies and activities, including flying the flag at half-staff. This section only requests that the President act each year — it does not itself require the proclamation to happen.
