42 U.S.C. § 300u–15 — Research on optimizing the delivery of public health services

(a) In general: The Secretary, through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, must fund research on public health services and systems. (b) Requirements of research: This research must: (1) study evidence-based prevention practices, focusing on high-priority areas the Secretary identifies in the National Prevention Strategy or Healthy People 2020, including comparing community-based public health interventions by effectiveness and cost; (2) study how interventions move from academic settings into real-world use; and (3) find effective ways to organize, fund, or deliver public health services in real-world community settings, including comparing state and local health department structures by effectiveness and cost. (c) Existing partnerships: This research must be coordinated with the Community Preventive Services Task Force and built on existing federal partnerships, while also considering state, local, and private-sector efforts. (d) Annual report: The Secretary must report to Congress every year on this research's activities and findings.
