43 U.S.C. § 316b — Grazing districts

submitted 99 years ago by ch. 513 to r/title-43-PUBLIC-LANDS · 102 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

The Secretary of the Interior can create grazing districts in Alaska on certain public lands. These districts can group scattered land areas together as one unit. Once a district exists, the Secretary can lease grazing rights within it.

(a) The Secretary may create grazing districts on public lands that are outside the Aleutian Islands Reservation, outside national forests and other lands the Secretary of Agriculture manages, and outside national parks and monuments — as long as the Secretary thinks the land is valuable for grazing livestock. These districts can combine surveyed and unsurveyed land into whatever areas the Secretary decides can be conveniently managed as one unit, even if the pieces are not touching or next to each other.

(b) Once the Secretary has created a district, the Secretary may lease the grazing rights inside it, following the rules of this subchapter.
